Our Values
Here are the core and essential values that guide Action
Femmes et handicap.

INTERSECTIONALITY is the cornerstone of our organization. It’s a feminist theory that analyzes different forms of oppression and power hierarchies.
In addition to sex and gender identity, intersectionality takes into account several sociodemographic factors (ethnic origin, social class, sexual orientation, religion, age and disability for example) and examines how these factors can interact simultaneously. This theory highlights the power relations that exist between different groups. It calls for reflection on the positions that a person occupies and the privileges they have where they live. Even if the exercise is not always easy, it is important to name and understand our identities and privileges.
AFH's core values
AFH’s interventions and those of its representatives, it’s work team and members of affiliated associations are carried out in accordance with the organization’s core values, namely:
Universal accessibility
Universal accessibility is defined as the nature of a service or place that allows all people to carry out activities independently and enjoy the same opportunities as everyone else.
Empowerment
A process that aims to support and strengthen, among women with disabilities, their power to act on themselves and their environment, in order to mobilize the resources (internal or external) necessary to achieve their aspirations, projects or personal needs.
Social inclusion
This is a concept that defines the notion of equal participation of individuals in a society, that is to say a society organized to meet the needs of all, including people with disabilities.
Equity
Equality assumes that everyone has the same opportunities and advantages. Equity means aiming for results that do justice to all, even when this requires treating people differently. By making equity one of our fundamental values, AFH instead promotes fair treatment according to the circumstances.
Social Justice
A moral and political construct that aims for equal rights and understands the need for collective solidarity between people in a given society. AFH contributes to the creation of a more equitable and socially just society.
Solidarity
Promote consultation between people and do not hesitate to seek their expertise in order to ensure the completion of quality work. Maintain relationships with others based on trust, authenticity and honesty and demonstrate respect in our interpersonal communications.
