Becoming a member of Action Femmes et Handicap gives you the opportunity to help improve the living conditions of women with disabilities, to participate in the advancement of their rights, and to make their voices heard on issues that concern
them.

Who can become a member?

Would you like to become a member of Action Femmes et Handicap (AFH)?
Would you like to renew your membership?

AFH has three different membership categories, active members, supporting members, and partner members. Please make sure you meet the criteria for one of these categories before signing up. Regardless of your category, all members must support AFH’s mission and uphold its values.

Active Members

Any woman living with a disability, the mother of a child or the partner of a person living with a disability, or a natural caregiver. These members have the right to vote at annual and special general meetings, can run for a seat on the board of directors, and may take part in member activities.

Suggested membership fee: $10/year

Supporting Members

Any individual who identifies as a woman. These members do not have voting rights at annual or special general meetings and cannot sit on the board of directors. However, they may participate in member activities.

Suggested membership fee: 10$/year

Partner Members

Any association focused on women's issues and aligned with AFH’s mission and objectives. These associations must be represented by women appointed by their respective organizations. They do not have voting rights at annual or special general meetings and cannot sit on the board of directors. However, they may participate in member activities.

Suggested membership fee: 25$/year

* If you’re unable to afford the active membership fee, please know that we have a special fund to cover the cost for you. No woman should be prevented from fully participating in civic life due to her socio-economic situation.

Getting involved on the Board of Directors

Do you identify yourself as a woman with a disability, or as the mother, spouse or caregiver of a person with a disability?

Are you dynamic, committed and want to get involved in the democratic life of the organization? Would you like to contribute to the advancement of the rights of women with disabilities? Once you’ve been a member for more than a month, you can apply to join the Board of Directors. If you’d like to join the Board of Directors, write us a short cover letter and send it to coordo@actionfh.ca.

Contribute as a volunteer

Join us by giving a few hours of your time.

  • Join occasional committees to reflect, mobilize and take action to improve your living conditions;
  • Share your skills (organizing and supporting activities, writing, updating
    the organization’s website and Facebook page, etc.);
  • Support AFHM in its actions to improve the living conditions of women with disabilities by participating in a specific committee, action, mobilization or activity of its members;
