From I to We" project (AFH, 2019 - 2023)
This project was conceived in order to develop and implement a succession plan for AFH in the face of an observation: the lack of involvement of women with disabilities in the advocacy movement and at AFH.
Phase one: research
The first phase of the Du Je au Nous project consisted in carrying out research into the issues faced by women with disabilities in their involvement with the community and associations. This research involved semi-structured individual interviews with AFH members and non-members. These exchanges enabled us to produce a research report entitled “Trajectories of community involvement by women with disabilities” (Community involvement trajectories of women with disabilities), as well as a set of recommendations in which we identified avenues for reflection and action to maintain and develop a dynamic and meaningful associative life. We would like to thank Sophie Coulombe for conducting this analysis project on our behalf
Phase two: governance and communication
The second phase of the project involved developing and updating our governance and promotional tools. An in-depth review of our by-laws and policies enabled us to reflect on what we wanted to consolidate and bring new to AFH. We changed the organization's name, to be more in tune with today's realities, and reviewed our visual identity and the content of our promotional tools. We would like to thank Farah Mimmi, Marie-Hélène Cousineau and Rose-Marie Wakil for their work in this phase.
Phase three: Mobilization
Phase 3 is the culmination of the first two phases. It was designed to develop mechanisms and strategies for recruitment, recognition and knowledge transfer. Study days were organized for our members and partners. Members were involved in the entire process, from preparation to execution of these workshops, because let's not forget that the overall aim of the project was to create a succession for AFH. Here's the complete program and workshop reports.
